Who wore it Better ? Nicole Richie or Rihanna (black, long-sleeved crocodile dress from Tom Ford's fall 2012 collection)

Now most people know I have a fashion crush on Nicole Richie, BUT she clearly rocked this more stylishly.  Rihanna is KNOW for wearing slinky barely there sexy strappy heels and would have been the perfect opportunity to wear them.  From the front it looks like ballerina slippers.  Riri does her thing with fashion but I was hoping to see her in a different heel.  Nicole did it right from head to toe....no additional comments.

Swee-T Thought Monthly Magazine: I WILL BE HAPPY...WHEN..STARTS TODAY!

Swee-T Thought Monthly

I WILL BE HAPPY...WHEN..STARTS TODAY!

I am guilty of bypassing the moment and dreaming into my future and saying I will be happy WHEN I get this or that.  These days I have learned to just say I will be happy TODAY!

To often I think in such a rich society we get caught up in what everyone else is doing, wearing, gaining, loosing that we forget to breathe and just appreciate where we are in life.

I am not saying that we can't hope for improvements in our lives to feel more comfortable, but we surely can't overlook ALL THAT GOD HAS DONE TODAY!

To often we do that.  We are constantly rushing around in this fast paced society trying to get here and there that we don't even realize, WE ARE LIVING THE REALITY OF SOMEONE ELSE'S DREAM.  YOUR LIFESTYLE IS SOMEONE'S DREAM!!!!  Take a moment to think about that.

Somewhere out there someone dreams of living in a comfortable home, or just to have a roof over their heads, clothes, FOOD, family or friends.  A day to wake up and see or hear.  Wake up to not be depressed or not get abused.   Things we take for granted everyday.

I have had to pace myself recently since starting a new job, making more money than I've ever made in the past, my office and the NO STRESS, NO MICROMANAGEMENT approach is something for me to get used to and the independence to just be expected to do your work with open hours of earliest I can start is 5am, latest I can come in is 8:30am, just do your 8 hours is all that is required.  A concept that  is completely a blessing and a GOD send.  I say all this to say that I COULD NOT HAVE DREAMT or THOUGHT UP a better job situation.  HE has truly given me more than what I asked or could dream of.

I just had this conversation with GOD recently.  I said Lord, at 39 years old I am realizing that I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WANT!  YOU KNOW MY FUTURE, YOU KNOW WHERE YOU WANT ME TO GO, FINALLY I THROW UP MY HANDS AND PLEASE TAKE THE WHEEL.  I WILL STOP TRYING TO PLAN MY LIFE AND JUST ASK YOU , WHAT DO YOU WANT?  In the scriptures He said He will give you the desires of your heart.  He will take His desires and put them into your heart so you will focus in the direction He wants you to go.  Psalms 37:4

We are taught to make plans, goals, write down the drafts of our futures, but let me ask, has ANYTHING EVER TURN OUT EXACTLY AS YOU PLANNED IT????  Better yet have you ever prayed for something and then when you got it, you wanted to give it back?????

I can count the times I have made a life plan or had a goal and once I got it, I was disappointed.

I have learned that I have to trust God in all my ways.  I think it's funny that we try so hard to control our future's with planning when we don't even know what curve ball is to come.

The example of wanting a man so bad and then when he came he was the devil.  Wanting children so bad then when they are teenagers turning someones home into WW3.  Wanting a house so bad but didn't realize the neighbors from hell lived next door, or couldn't afford to keep it when so and so lost their job.  Wanting a type of car so bad, just for it to get vandalized or stolen or can't afford the car payments.  It could be so many things that don't turn out quite how we expected.

Next time you sit back and are to busy to appreciate your life or grumpy that something didn't go your way,  remember this.  Right now you re living someone else's dream.  Right now someone dreams of living where you live and working where you work, and having the opportunities you have today.

Being happy doesn't start tomorrow it starts TODAY!

Ephesians 3:20
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Psalm 56:3 , 4 “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.”

Isaiah 26:3 “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

Psalms 119:133
Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

Skin Lightening Controversy over India Arie's New Albulm Cover "Cocoa Butter"

I new from jump this was a camera issue but there was a good point that she approved the photo.   I remember growing up and wishing I had brown skin like my idol, model "Iman".   I was teased about having a larger nose and called ugly cause of it.  I hate that "WE" let so many "OTHER" people define what beauty should be to us.  I think this is why today I can rock a fro or a weave with out care of what anyone think just my own satisfaction.  I can be skinny or heavy to my own satisfaction and feel cute or "UNPRETTY" (TLC SONG) at any size.  My nose .... that which I used to hate.. I LOVE IT, because God loves me and I love me.

Marley Braiding Hair Styles & Install Techniques/ Marley Hair on Weft or for Braiding.

Now I found this gorgeous model and style while looking for my next hair weave expression.  I came across a site that has the Marley Hair that I commonly use to crochet into my head on a weft .  BINGO (must get it-much easier).

This style here is gorgeous and on my "Will Have To List"

Currently the company that sells this on a weft is in Africa and do not sell to U.S. clients (sad face) but you can also purchase the Marley hair for braiding and install by crochet technique (below) and style from there.

Stalking Her Style: The Lady in Yellow -The Fabulous Solange

Solange doesn't like to make a big deal out of her hair or style but she doesn't realize how fabulous it is and the rest of us are just stalking it.  I personally LOVE YELLOW, PINK & SHADES of Light and Neon GREEN on myself we have about the same skin shade.  I love to see how people dress her.  I love to see how her hair is styled natural or weaved.  LOVE IT.   She is setting trends and should just embrace it, anyone who is a natural KNOWS there are some naturals who are completely militant about it, when the expression is solely up to the person wearing the hair, there is not "standard" we as naturals should compare ourselves to.  Just be you, do you and do what you feel is best for you.  Love.

Best Foods to Nourish Your Skin

The Diet Detective: The Best Foods to Nourish Your Skin

http://www.active.com/nutrition/Articles/The_Diet_Detective__The_Best_Foods_to_Nourish_Your_Skin

Your skin is important to your appearance. It's part of that "first impression." Since there is a lot riding on the story your face tells, I asked some top dermatologists and nutrition experts a few questions about the best and worst foods for your skin.

What can you add to your diet that will show results in your skin?

Green tea, red wine: Wrinkles are caused by a loss of three vital skin structures: collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. The goal in wrinkle treatment is to increase levels of these three substances, says Leslie Baumann, M.D., professor of dermatology at University of Miami and author of The Skin Type Solution (Bantam, 2006). Drink 2 to 4 cups of green tea per day.
"It has a high content of flavonoid/catechins, (which can help to strengthen collagen) and of theanine, an amino acid associated with relaxation and cortisol control," says Shawn M. Talbott, Ph.D., author of Cortisol Control and the Beauty Connection (Hunter House, 2007). "Too much cortisol can induce disruptions in blood sugar and inflammation." Red wine has a flavonoid/collagen effect similar to green tea and is known for its relaxation effects and blood flow-promotion, he adds.

Water: Of course you need to drink water to prevent dehydration. "However, as far as skin is concerned, it is not how much water you drink but how well your skin holds onto the water," says Baumann. "Skin needs adequate levels of fatty acids, ceramides (a type of fat) and cholesterol to hold onto water. This is why vegans and people on low-cholesterol diets or cholesterol-lowering drugs have dry skin. Any liquid you drink can provide skin hydration; however, water consumption should be increased when drinking caffeine and alcohol, both of which can dehydrate you."

Omega-3s: "Healthy omega-3 fatty acids help maintain cell membranes so that they are effective barriers--allowing water and nutrients in and keeping toxins out," says Joy Bauer, M.S., R.D., author of Joy Bauer's Food Cures (Rodale, 2007). "Omega-3s also seem to protect skin against sun damage. In a study of skin cancer, people who ate diets rich in fish oils and other omega-3 fats had a 29 percent lower risk of squamous cell cancer than those who got very little omega-3 fats from food." They are also anti-inflammatory, so they help reduce acne and facial redness. "Good food sources include oily fish, sardines, Pacific oysters, lake trout, flaxseeds, walnuts and omega-3 fortified eggs," adds Bauer.
Grains: Instead of refined carbs, eat more whole-grain carbs, which don't cause the blood sugar spikes that lead to the glycation (sugar breaking down) of skin proteins that accelerates wrinkling, says Talbott.

Vitamin C: It's involved in collagen production and protects cells from free radical damage. "Scientific studies found that when lab animals ate vitamin C-fortified food, their skin was better able to fight off oxidative damage,"says Bauer. Baumann adds that getting the proper amount of vitamin C in your diet can help reverse wrinkles. Good sources include peppers (red/green/yellow), oranges, strawberries, lemons and broccoli.

Vitamin E: This vitamin helps protect cell membranes and guards against UV radiation damage. "Some research suggests that vitamin E may work in combination with vitamin C to provide an extra boost of anti-aging skin protection," says Bauer. "I recommend eating wheat germ, avocado, fortified cereals, nuts and seeds."

8 Herbs & Oils that Promote Hair Growth

By Cipriana of Urbanbushbabes.com
For years I used products containing mineral oil to coat my strands. Many manufacturers use mineral oil in a majority of products that contain synthetic ingredients because of its behavior as a preservative. Mineral oil is the result of the distillation of petroleum which acts as a saran wrap against your scalp, slowing down one of the skin’s main job which is to eliminate toxins. On the other hand natural oils are easily absorbed by the skin.
When I used products that consisted mostly of synthetic materials such as Blue Magic I’m not going to lie my hair did grow, but it was not until I switched to all natural products that I began to see the true potential of my growth capability. Before the change in my regimen I experienced a GREAT deal of shedding and dandruff. Now those days are far behind. I’m still fascinated by how are body responds to topical products. Not only is it important to watch what we put into our bodies but what we put on it as well.
My boyfriend’s grandfather is full Cherokee Indian and when we met three years ago he always talked about the importance of what you put on your body, coming from a background of ancestors rich in a holistic lifestyle. But I could not and would not give up my trusty Coconut Blue Magic until just about a year ago. When I finally gave in to the natural “stuff” I was determined that this was just a trial period and I would be back on my good old Blue Magic in no time. Well it’s been a year later and I am still using the natural “stuff”. For years I had been so accustomed to my hair feeling greasy from the mineral oil based products that it took me a while to really understand what my hair felt like with natural oils.

Again I am not here to force you into switching into an all-natural regimen, do what works best for you, but I did come across two interesting articles from ehow.com about the usage of certain natural oils by Native Americans and the distinct benefits the hair reaps from each of these natural oils.
*All of the items listed below can be found as oils or supplements at your local health & vitamin store.
1. Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is an extract of the Jojoba plant found in California, Arizona and parts of Mexico. Jojoba oil has been used for hundreds of years by American Indians to moisturize and grow hair. The molecular makeup of jojoba has similar characteristics to the natural oil the glands of the scalp produce. Jojoba oil can be purchased at herb shops and can be applied directly to your hair or you can add a few drops to your favorite conditioner to promote hair growth. Jojoba is hypoallergenic and will not harm your hair or scalp. Aloe vera is another product used by Native American Indians to promote hair growth and is also an excellent moisturizer for your hair.
2. Wheat Germ/Aloe Vera/Coconut Milk
Mix 1/4 cup of wheat germ, 1/4 cup of aloe vera and 1/4 cup of coconut milk and use this product as a natural shampoo. Aloe vera can be purchased at drugstores and herb shops and can also be applied directly to the scalp as it will open pores on the scalp that may have previously been blocked and will allow the hair follicles to grow. The American Indians also used and continue to use several kinds of oils to promote hair growth such as emu oil, rosemary oil, and mustard oil.
3. Peppermint
A few drops of any of these products can be massaged directly into the scalp to stimulate the hair follicles and promote hair growth. Peppermint oil is also a good scalp stimulator but must be diluted before application. Mix 3 drops of peppermint oil with 3 teaspoons of water and massage into the scalp. These oils can be purchased at herb shops and all are hypoallergenic and not harmful to the hair or scalp.
4. Lavender
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia or Lavandula officinalis), native to the Mediterranean, is now grown in temperate climates worldwide. For centuries, lavender has been used by herbal practitioners to prevent baldness and to encourage new hair growth. Lavender contains potent anti-bacterial agents that soothe and heal scalp infections. It is useful in treating dandruff and adds volume to the hair shaft. Place a few sprigs of lavender in a glass container and cover with extra-virgin olive oil and cover tightly. Place in a cool, dark spot and allow to age for 3 to 4 weeks. Use the lavender infused oil as a daily scalp massage. Apply and leave on overnight. In the morning, wash hair with a gentle organic shampoo and style as usual.
A daily rinse of lavender water (bring water to a boil, add a few sprigs of lavender, reduce to simmer for 20 minutes, then cool) will impart a delightful fragrance and shine to hair. Apply lavender as a daily rinse after shampooing.
5. Burdock
Burdock (Arctium Lappa) root oil, also known as Bur oil is one of the most important herbs used to restore hair. Burdock promotes healthy hair by relieving scalp irritations and improving blood circulation to the hair follicle. Burdock root oil supplies natural phytosterols and important essential fatty acids to hair roots, and has been traditionally used to reduce and reverse hair thinning. It is a key ingredient in many hair restoration treatments.
6. Saw Palmetto
Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens) has been used for centuries as both a food staple and as a healing medicinal herb. The herb produces a dark red berry which is dried and then pulverized into a fine powder. Saw palmetto is available in several forms including ointments, capsules, tinctures and teas. Recent scientific studies have shown that Saw Palmetto may have beneficial effects for those suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH); male pattern baldness and other conditions associated with excess DHT (male hormone) production.
7. Stinging Nettle
Stinging Nettle (Urtica Diocia), found growing naturalized across America, blocks the conversion of testosterone into DHT. Excessive DHT contributes to hair loss in both men and women. Stinging nettle can be purchased in either pill or capsule form and is said to be more effective when used in combination with saw palmetto. Nettle can be harvested in the wild (use gloves as the leaves are covered with tiny hairs that cause a stinging sensation upon contact with human skin). The fresh leaves can be submersed in olive oil in a glass jar. Seal and place in a cool, dark spot for 2 to 3 weeks. Apply the oil in an invigorating scalp massage. Stinging nettle essential oil is frequently an ingredient in organic shampoos and conditioners.
8. Rosemary
Used for centuries in cultures worldwide to promote hair growth and delay the onset of gray hair, Rosemary oil stimulates blood circulation of the scalp. A refreshing daily rinse of rosemary leaves simmered in water retains hair color. The rinse is most effective on dark hair. A few drops of rosemary oil can be added to olive oil and used as a scalp massage oil.

Model Cameron Russell: "Models Are the Most Physically Insecure Women On the Planet"

Cameron Russell is arguably one of the most beautiful women on the planet. Over the past 10 years, she's graced the cover of Vogue, frolicked in a bikini for numerous fashion ads, and stomped down the runway for Victoria's Secret. But don't assume she has it all. She doesn't—and she's the first one to admit it.

The 25-year-old model recently gave apresentation at the global series TED, on life as a model. She began by saying, “I am standing on this stage because I am a pretty white woman and in my industry we call that a 'sexy girl.' I am going to answer some of the questions people ask me but with an honest twist."

Russell explained that while a model's lifestyle is filled with travel, glamour, and working with brilliant creatives, that's only a glossy exterior for the corruption and sometimes manipulative nature of the modeling industry, describing how when she started out as a model, she had to act sexual at photo shoots having never even had a boyfriend.
While explaining that she often gets asked how one becomes a model, Russell says, "....The real way I became a model is I won a genetic lottery and I became the recipient of a legacy. Saying you want to be a model when you grow up is akin to saying you want to win the Powerball when you grow up. It's awesome and it's out of your control and it's not a career path."
While showing photos of her in both fashion spreads juxtaposed against photos of her in real life, Russell says, "These pictures are not pictures of me, they're constructions," says Russell. "They're constructions by professionals — hairstylists, make up artists, photographers stylists and all of their assistants and pre-production and post-production and they build this. That's not me."
But the most insightful part of her talk is when Russel confesses: "I am insecure. Because I have to think about what I look like every day. If you ever are wondering, 'If I have thinner thighs and shinier hair will I be happier?' you just need to meet a group of models because they have the thinnest thighs and the shiniest hair and the coolest clothes and they're the most physically insecure women on the planet."
It makes sense. When a woman is valued primarily for her physical appearance, it can be easy for her to believe that her beauty is her only form of currency. If looks are the focus of a woman's day, they will inevitably occupy most of her thoughts and drive her fears. No wonder models are so insecure.

Russell's words are indeed powerful, but just weeks after her Ted Talk she walked in the Victoria's Secret fashion show. Is she being hypocritical by criticizing the modeling industry while also cashing in on it? "Not at all," says Bethany Marshall, Ph.D., a psychoanalyst in Beverly Hills, CA. "She sounds grounded in reality. We all have to use our assets and gifts to advance ourselves in life. If she was a math genius and refused to go to college, we'd be critical of her. The fact is, she's a gorgeous woman—why shouldn't she use that to advance her life? Her beauty is a resource and an instrument. The difference is, we don't envy the math genius. We envy the model."
This isn't the first time models have let us in on the secrets of the industry. In 2012, Tyra Banks penned an open letter to models praising Vogue for banning images of anorexia. And in 2010, Victoria's Secret Angel Doutzen Kroes spoke out about her struggle to attain the ideal figure, saying: "I probably fit the sample size once, when I was eleven or twelve. It became a problem — I was always told lots of times that I should lose weight. It was a thing, ‘You look great, but you should probably lose a few pounds. That kept going on until I was about 22, and when I was like, ‘This is crazy,’ because I would look in the mirror and I like the way I look."

COLOR BLOCKING TREND

Color Blocking Trend-

You’ve all probably realized how huge the color-blocking trend has become already! One of the main ways to stay fashionable and unique this season is by following the color-block trend which is truly exquisite, daring, and attractive! You may be asking what color-blocking is. Well, the answer is simple; color-blocking is when you add contrast colors together. You can either color-block on your own creating an overall contrast colored outfit with different clothing pieces, or you can simply purchase a top, dress, or skirt that is already color-blocked, meaning it combines unique and contrasting colors together. This season, you can find so many color-block clothing items in stores and online. When it comes to tops, a great pick is the color-block cable knit sweater, which features a round neck, long sleeves, and large sections of orange, coral, blue, and grey colors! However, you can also find other choices such as oversized color-block tops which are made of satin material, have loose crew necks, short sleeves in contrast colors such as turquoise, and the body of the top in two other colors such as peach and brown, color-block sheer tank tops which are made of chiffon, have an asymmetrical hemline, and made of three contrasting colors; grey, navy, and lime, and much more to choose from.
On the other hand, if you want to choose a color-block dress to completely stand out; well you’ll just find tons of amazing options such as color-block tank maxi dresses which are sleeveless, have a side pocket on the chest, and designed with large contrast colored stripes, and a color-block strapless bodycon dress which is very tight and form-fitting on the body and features feminine colors such as lime, fuchsia, and grey. And don’t miss out on the unique color-block swimsuits in so many colors and styles. They’re truly outstanding pieces! Furthermore, you can also find different, unique color-block skirts which are very daring such as the color-block bandage skirts which feature two contrast colors such as black and fuchsia with stripes and unique prints. And finally, a simple way to incorporate this amazing trend into your outfit is by simply adding a pair of color-block shoes. Now, you can find color-block pumps, color-block sandals, and much more. The best thing about this trend is that it pushes women from a comfortable spot, to trying new, unique, and daring combinations of colors!

March Swee-T Thought: Fear vs. Faith

February's Sweet Thought about "Power of Your Words" ( http://eepurl.com/tYe7H ).

Swee-T Thought Monthly

Fear vs. Faith

Hi Sweeties,

Today's illustration says it all and is loaded with meaning.  The struggle between doubt and fear vs faith, hope and peace is something every human being has to deal with at some point or another.

Whether it's issues about finances, job, family, relationships or living life in general we all have had to make choices on which direction we would  choose to go.

On one hand, you have life staring you in the face with all of it's difficulties and slaps every moment telling you to embrace it's negative clutches.

On the other hand we have the nature of the All Mighty & Powerful One and True LIVING God wrapped into our DNA.  This DNA has the Laws and the Likeness of His character built within it.   It's that voice that says there is more for you, there is better for you.

So here we find ourselves struggling with our realities and this God Given Nature that whispers to us that "we should be doing better".  Whether that is relationships, finances or hopes and dreams.

In my own life I have struggled with the age old question.  What AM I here for?  What is my purpose in this life?  Why do I still feel this void that there is something else I am supposed to be doing?

So, I found myself trying to make my way in life.  Trying to achieve something in order to receive validation that I mattered in this spec in the vast universe.  I have been in a place of giving everything I had, to accomplish certain goals and was met with failure.  From that everything I put my hands to ( though I execute jobs efficiently) there is always a nagging fear...what if this fails too.

One thing I have learned is that Fear is not Real.  Sure, times come where I don't put this into practice, but I do purposely make an effort to guard and examine, filter and correct my thoughts.  It's something that we have to train our brains to do.

I realized it's silly to worry, put an effort towards, spend time and energy on something that has not happened is insanity.

I rehearse the MANY times I faced difficulities and God saw me through it and showed me that everything would be alright.

The answer to how to battle fear is to CHOOSE to disregard the thought that is causing the fear.

I will CHOOSE to have a positive attitude and faith about this situation.
I will CHOOSE to trust God, no matter the outcome
I will CHOOSE to hold on to Peace no matter what is going on around me.

It's the concept God has been trying to get us to understand since the beginning of time.

We all make choices but do we make the right choices.  Do we make the right choices understanding the power of the moment we are in. God has not promised us a tomorrow but what we do have is right now.

The human brain produces approximately 70,000 thoughts on an average day.

We are making decisions about getting out of bed, brushing our teeth, how to handle someone who is working our last nerve.  We make these thoughts on auto-pilot.

Unfortunately,  when we keep rehearsing the SAME thought patterns, especially negative ones.  We are training and hard wiring our brain to respond the same way.

It's time to rewire our brains.  CHOOSE to be positive.  CHOOSE to think positive and CHOOSE to tell yourself positive things.  Disregard thoughts that cause you fear.  Fear causes depression, to have a false view about ourselves and others.

I even heard someone say that if we are in fear that we can't even love God perfectly, because perfect LOVE casts out ALL fear.
